The brand systemThe challenge
Three buildings. One seamless living experience. That was the line the whole system had to land.
Chess Builders came back to us for The Westline, after The Arches. They brought three addresses, a handful of details and a set of renderings. Everything else was still to be made. The name of the complex, a name for each building, and one identity that could hold all three.
Three buildings on three different streets, sharing one set of amenities and one management. The three buildings are named for their addresses, 11th Ave, West 45th and West 46th. Someone standing outside 555 West 45th needed to see straight away that the roof garden and the gym were theirs too. Three doors, one address.
So the system was built to say one before it said three. A single name across all of it, one site with three ways in, a map that drew the complex as a single block, and the same mark repeating down three streets. The availability pages were built for Rentopia to run themselves, so the site could keep pace with the buildings as they filled.

SignageThe approach
How the brand was made to feel.
We wanted the buildings' own energy to lead, so the palette stays quiet: champagne, slate, deep navy, eucalyptus. Some renters come for the green, some come for the city. These colours hold both.
Then the detail that makes it ours: illustration and iconography created specifically for The Westline, in an architectural sketch style. Nothing stock, nothing borrowed, a set that belongs to these three buildings and no others.
The writing follows the same line. Elevated, warm, and every so often a little playful.

Pre-launch pop-upThe outcome
What happened in the year after the launch spike.
Every building gets a spike when its site launches. What matters is the year after. 1,835 people opened the form and 23% of them sent it. The visitors who arrive from search stay longest of all, 3m 28s from Google and 3m 55s from StreetEasy.
Most building sites go quiet the month after the ribbon cutting, because keeping them current means calling the people who built them. This one stayed current on its own, and the buildings hit their leasing targets ahead of schedule.
The developer, known for being highly critical, came prepared to point out issues and edits. After seeing the first round, he had none.
